GET TO KNOW US

The Katoomba Group, hosted by Forest Trends, is a global network of people working to mobilize public funding and private capital to conserve and restore nature in ways that also empower indigenous and local communities. Established in Sydney and Katoomba in April 2000, the group has met 28 times in 16 countries. Group members have played important roles in developing new payments and markets for forest carbon and other ecosystem services, leading major environmental policy reforms, establishing conservation finance companies, and providing thought leadership for a nature-positive future all around the world.

KATOOMBA 28

In October 2024, the Australian Government will host a Global Nature Positive Summit in Sydney, with a stated aim “to drive private sector investment to protect and repair our environment.” The 25th Anniversary Katoomba Summit — hosted from October 3 to 7, 2024 — is an opportunity to take stock of how far we have come towards the vision of the Katoomba Group, to celebrate wins and lessons learned, and to map out where we need to go. This is the first in a series of events that will be directly related to informing COP negotiations and increasing ambition and commitments.
